Editing Photos

How to edit your dressage horse photos so that your sale ad is more effective.

Editing your photos is important to help your classified ad be more effective.

  • You want to crop photos so buyers can see the horse up close and not be distracted by the background.
  • You want to make your ending photo size relatively small so your ads display quickly to horse shoppers.

Guidelines on photo size:
In any photo editor you should make your photos around 300 pixels wide.  Currently, photos are only displayed at 300 pixels width, so anything larger than this is unused and slows down the loading of the ad.  72 dpi resolution usually good for screen resolution.   With Photoshop, I am able to get me photos down to 16 Kb with no problem.  If you can keep the photo size below 100 Kb you are in very good shape.  Files that are above the 500 Kb (.5 Mb) range are definitely too large and will be blocked from displaying to ad viewers!

Google's Picasa is free and can help you edit your photos as well as organize and view them on your computer.  You can even make screen savers with it.
