Part 1 - Lungeing and Breaking-in
The first part of this series shows the first steps of lungeing and riding young horses, always considering their level of training. It shows the first seven weeks of the training of two rising four year old horses from the day they arrive at Rudolf Zeilinger's yard. The work centers on the first three elements of the training scale - rhythm, suppleness and contact. It is astonishing to see how fast the young horses develop confidence and relax - a logial consequence of the calm, but consistent work of Zeilinger.
Rudolph Zeilinger studied for many years with the legendary Willi Schultheis and is himself the trainer of many Olympic and World Championship horses (including Michelle Gibson & Peron). He is particularly known for his wonderful sensitivity when training horses for dressage. Zeilinger's horses stand out because of their lightness, flexibility, suppleness, natural harmony and grace. It's interesting to follow the systematic progression of Zeilinger's sensitive and yet effective work in these young horses and to see how quickly he builds their trust and develops their degree of suppleness.
