Rubinstein

Rubinstein was born into a dressage Royal Family. His dam is Antine, one of the three daughters of the mating of the Thoroughbred stallion, Angelo and Dodona (the two male foals from this pairing were Olympic dressage stars, Amon and Ahlerich). Rubinstein is by Rosenkavalier - Rosenkavalier is by Romadour II, who is the sire of World and Olympic champion, Rembrandt, out of Antine's full-sister, Adone. From another full-sister, Annette came Romancier (also by Rosenkavalier) who stood at the Blue Hors Stud in Denmark. However it should be noted that Rubinstein's two full-brothers have disappeared without trace. Rubinstein was acquired at an early age by Mrs Gudula Vorwerk-Happ of the famous Vorwerk stud in Oldenburg. She bought him for a mere DM 35.000 as a three-year old. Before this he had been rejected for the Westphalian approvals, the commission being of the opinion that he was "too small, not enough horse, with defects on the hind leg not suitable for approval". De Baey had faith in the black horse, did not have him castrated and shortly afterwards welcomed Mrs Vorwerk and the Oldenburg Officials to his studfarm. Rubinstein was headed for Oldenburg. Rubinstein was third in his performance test at Adelheidsdorf remarkably finishing in a higher position (4th) in the jumping rankings than he did in the dressage (5th). Rubinstein was ridden in his early tests by that gifted rider/trainer Martina Hannöver, winning ten of his eleven starts at S-level. In 1995, Rubinstein scored eleven first and second placings at Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special level, and he was seriously being talked about as a candidate for the mighty German team to go to Atlanta. Then Martina lost the ride and Rubinstein went to Heike Kemmer, and the magic was lost. Nicole Uphoff rode the horse for a season, but even she could not get Rubinstein motoring again - his weaknesses, the lack of power and scope, particularly in the trot, were glaringly apparent. Still, by this stage, Rubinstein's most exciting son Rohdiamant, a foal from his first crop (out of Elektia V who is by the Anglo Arab stallion, Inschallah) was doing the performing for him. In 1993, Martina had ridden Rohdiamant into equal first place (with Wolkenstein II) in the 3 year old Championship at the Bundeschampionate.

He was stationed in Holstein until 1986, and then he was leased by the State Stud Celle from 1987 to 1989. From 1990 until his death from colic, in 1995, he stood at the Amselhof Walle, the stud owned by Joachim Kemmer, father of dressage rider, Heike. Calypso II's dam, Tabelle produced SIX approved stallions, starting with one by Congress, then when bred to Cor de la Bryère, the five Calypso brothers all of whom were useful horses and valuable sires. Tabelle is a full-sister to Samei, who was the dam of the great Granat, a world champion dressage horse with Christine Stückelberger. Calypso II produced a number of international performers including Calyno, Chin Chin, Cheyenne, Crazy Cocktail, Montemorelos la Silla, Caras J, Dobel's Cara Mia, Asien, Cartier S, Capella 3, Champ of Class and Zarina de San Patrignano. All Calypso II progeny show not only great jumping form, but also a wonderful rideability. He produced winners of one and a half million deutschmarks, with 557 competitors. On the basis of the Hanoverian mare tests, Calypso II achieves a dressage ranking of 131, and a jumping ranking of 167. His breeding index on the basis of his competition horses is 132 for dressage and 150 for jumping. During his time in Holstein, Calypso II produced a number of licensed sons for Hannover: Contender, Classiker and Champ of Class.Classiker stood for only three season, producing three stallion sons, Colani, Charon and Claas J. Calypso II's first Hanoverian foal crop produced three more stallions: Chasseur I a successful sire of showjumpers, his slightly less successful brother, Chasseur II, and Crazy Cocktail, who was initially not approved for Hannover and only gained approval after his own competition successes, at a time when his progeny were already enjoying international success at an international level. To safeguard the bloodline three more sons: Cardano, Carismo (stallion performance test winner) and Compliment, were acquired by Amselhof Walle. The Calypso II son, Carbid is out of a full-sister to Grundstein I and II, and stood near Verden from 1994-2000 where he was a successful sire of jumpers.

Argentinus

Bay stallion, born 1980, 17 hands Argentinus is the most influential son of the Hanoverian stallion, Argentan I. While Argentan was highly regarded as a brood mare sire he was also successful as a sire of performers, and was the most influential source of Absatz blood in contemporary breeding. Argentan was the sire of many international showjumpers as well as 19 approved stallion sons, and 119 state premium mares. Argentinus' dam is by Duden II who was highly esteemed as a producer of top quality performance horses and wonderful broodmares. In 1996, Argentinus was the youngest millionaire among Germany's top sires and is still regarded as amongst the most successful living Stallions in Germany. A successful advanced level jumper himself, this Performance Class 1, Main Premium stallion has bred both jumping and dressage stallions. Numerous Argentinus progeny have been at the top of international jumping and dressage for years now. Over 20 approved stallions, (including the stallion performance test winner and Vechta price record breaking, August der Starke) and numerous State Premium Mares, many which have proved themselves on a national level, Eg; National Broodmare Show, FN Performance Studbook), Performers include Anka with Markus Ehning, Aleppo S-OLD with Isabell Werth and Albano with Heike Kemmer - team gold medal winner in the 2001 German European Championships. Because Argentinus seems to have produced more solid lower level performers than international superstars, his current WBSFH ranking is not high - number 148 on the 2000/2001 standings and 170 in the rankings for the last ten years. He is currently represented by eight jumping horses. He is much more highly placed on the dressage standings, currently at number 2, largely on the basis of his son, Albano - sadly his second highest points earner, Amaretto died just as he was coming into his prime. Argentinus ranks 14th on the dressage standings for the past decade. Further in depth info can be viewed through Berndt Eylers website: http://www.horse-gate.com/argentinus In the survey of the world's top 75 jumping sires that appears in the French publication, Monneron 2007-2008, compiled by Bernard le Courtois (visit www.brullemail.com), Argentinus is ranked 16th in the world, with 15 CSI winners.
